Weapons Instructor Course (WIC) Airforce Base Leeuwarden 4th of November 2024
The Weapons Instructor Course (WIC) is a rigorous six-month training program held at Leeuwarden Air Base, Netherlands, aimed at producing elite weapons instructors skilled in integrating various weapon systems and support services. Participants, selected for their exceptional abilities, come from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Norway.
The program includes training for F-16 and F-35 pilots, C-130 crews, Patriot missile operators, intelligence officers, and Air Battle Managers. It combines theoretical lessons with practical flight training, covering air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, enhancing tactical expertise and system integration.
Leeuwarden Air Base, with its proximity to the North Sea exercise areas and advanced facilities, is an ideal location for the WIC. The base's access to the Vliehors range establishes it as a key European center for fighter aircraft operations.
The 2021 WIC edition saw 24 participants complete theoretical and practical training, culminating in complex mission scenarios. The course remains vital in preparing NATO allies' personnel to lead and instruct effectively, ensuring seamless integration of advanced weapon systems.
